Zamfara Residents Claim 30 Bandits Killed as Birnin Tudu Community Fights Back
By Tams Jonah, ABUJA –Â Residents of Birnin Tudu community in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have claimed that they killed more than 30 suspected bandits during a three-day confrontation after armed men invaded the community.
The residents reportedly engaged the attackers in a prolonged clash, resisting their incursion and fighting back against the armed group.
The confrontation highlights the growing desperation of communities in Zamfara and other parts of north-western Nigeria as residents struggle to defend themselves against persistent bandit attacks.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the residents said the fighting lasted three days, during which more than 30 bandits were allegedly killed.
The circumstances surrounding the confrontation, including the number of casualties among the residents and whether security agencies intervened, were not immediately clear from the available information.
Zamfara has remained one of the states worst affected by banditry, with armed groups carrying out attacks, abductions, killings and raids on rural communities.
The insecurity has disrupted farming, displaced residents and heightened fears among communities that often face attacks in areas with limited security presence.
The reported confrontation in Birnin Tudu underscores the challenges facing security agencies in containing armed groups and protecting vulnerable communities.
However, the claim that more than 30 bandits were killed has yet to be independently verified.
