2027: Bayelsa Newspaper Publishers Pledge Support for Peaceful, Credible Elections
By Jonah Fubara, YENAGOA –Â The Bayelsa Federated Newspaper Publishers’ Association (BAFENPA) has pledged to promote peaceful political participation and credible elections in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The association’s Chairman, Chief Jones Abiri, gave the assurance when he led members of the association on a courtesy visit to the Bayelsa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Warman Ogoriba, at his office in Yenagoa.
Abiri said indigenous newspaper publishers and journalists had a critical responsibility to inform and educate the public on government policies, political developments and programmes, stressing that their contributions were essential to nation-building.
He reaffirmed the association’s determination to use its platforms to encourage responsible political engagement and contribute to an atmosphere conducive to peaceful and credible elections.
The BAFENPA chairman also commended Ogoriba for his peaceful disposition and efforts to promote unity within the APC, expressing optimism that such initiatives would strengthen the party.
Responding, Ogoriba urged media practitioners to uphold the ethics of their profession and use their influence to promote peace, democracy and national cohesion.
He acknowledged the media’s important role in disseminating information about political parties, their policies and programmes, and expressed his readiness to collaborate with publishers in advancing societal development.
The APC chairman also expressed confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, citing its grassroots presence across the state.
He said he had been working to reconcile party members and strengthen internal cohesion since assuming office, maintaining that unity, cooperation and mutual understanding were essential to political success.
Ogoriba urged party stakeholders to put aside personal interests and internal disagreements, warning that divisions could undermine the party’s progress ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also called on members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and work collectively towards securing electoral victory for the APC.
