Adaka Boro’s Legacy Still Inspires Niger Delta Struggle — IYC Mobilization Director
By AKAM JAMES, Yenagoa — The National Director of Mobilization of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, High Chief Ari Fekorigha, has declared that the enduring legacies of Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro continue to make him an unforgotten hero of the Niger Delta region.
Speaking after the procession from Tombia Junction to Izon House in Yenagoa ahead of the 58th Adaka Boro commemoration celebration in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Chief Fekorigha called on all Ijaw sons and daughters to embrace peace, unity, and purposeful engagement.
He also expressed satisfaction with the level of organization of the 58th Boro celebration and commended the state government for providing the opportunity to honour the Niger Delta visionary hero in such a historic manner.
According to him, “Today marks another memorable day. From Rivers to Delta and here in Bayelsa, the processions and celebrations have been massive and historic. We are happy to celebrate yet another year in honour of our hero.”
Fekorigha noted that his tenure as National Director of Mobilization would soon come to an end as the current leadership gradually winds down. He praised the 9th National Executive Council led by President Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri, SRN, for successfully organizing Ijaw youths across various zones, chapters, and creek communities for the celebration.
Addressing the issue of alleged factional leadership within the IYC, he dismissed such claims, insisting that the court had ruled against individuals allegedly parading themselves as executives of the organization.
He alleged that some persons, backed by certain leaders for selfish and personal interests, attempted to create parallel leadership structures within the congress, but failed in their efforts to bring the organization into disrepute.
“There was never a faction in the IYC. Some individuals who never conducted elections came together to form a parallel leadership, and because some elders and past leaders supported them for monetary gains, confusion arose. However, the court has ruled in favour of the authentic executive and fined those involved,” he stated.
