Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has appointed Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye as the new Acting Chief Judge of the state.

Justice Ayemieye took the oath of office in acting capacity in the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Yenagoa following the retirement of Justice Kate Abiri who had served as Chief Judge for fifteen years.

Governor Diri charged the new Acting Chief Judge to maintain the cordial relationship between the judiciary and the executive arm of government in the state.

He noted that Justice Ayemieye was qualified for the position while urging her to carry her colleagues along in the scheme of things in order to move the state judiciary to greater heights.

“I will advise and task our newly appointed Acting Chief Judge who was the most senior of all the Judges and who has been working harmoniously with her predecessor and her predecessor has been working harmoniously with other arms of government, we would expect that you maintain the relationship that your predecessor has already put in place and possibly surpass the records of your predecessor ”

The governor also urged other members of the state judiciary to support her to enable her succeed.
