Bayelsa Politics: Oboku Asks Turnah to Showcase NDDC, PDP Records
By Jonah Fubara, YENAGOA – The member representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma-Opokuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Oforji Oboku, has challenged George Turnah to publicly present his contributions to Bayelsa State during his time at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and as a factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oboku urged Turnah to tell Bayelsans the projects he attracted, initiatives he facilitated and other contributions he made to the development of the state while occupying the two positions.
He said public office holders and political actors should be prepared to account for their records of service rather than engage in media exchanges that, in his view, amount to disrespect for political leaders and elders.
The federal lawmaker said Governor Douye Diri could point to several infrastructure projects and empowerment programmes delivered by his administration, adding that he was equally prepared to present his own record of contributions to the constituency and the state.
Oboku listed roads, bridges and empowerment programmes among the projects and interventions he said he had facilitated for his constituents.
He maintained that political engagement should focus on development, public service and verifiable achievements rather than personal attacks or what he described as disrespectful comments against leaders.
“We are not known to disrespect leaders,” Oboku said, insisting that those making claims about their contributions to the state should be ready to present their records for public scrutiny.
He therefore challenged Turnah to come forward and tell Bayelsans what he had done or attracted to the state during his years at the NDDC and in his capacity as a PDP factional chairman.
