BYSACA Gives Support to SACA to Reach Out to Communities

The Bayelsa State Agency for the Control of AIDS, BYSACA has provided medical support to the Stakeholders Alliance for Corporate Accountability, SACA to reach out to communities in Bayelsa state.

SACA is a Non-governmental Organization, NGO established to pragmatically engage multinational oil companies operating in the Niger Delta to improve their practices in the management of the environment, delivery of social responsibilities in communities and respect for human rights and humanitarian laws.

BYSACA Community Mobilization Officer, Precious Lambert who was part of the team during the three day outreach encouraged residents of Biseni, Agbura, Katto and Tuburu to know their HIV status.

While speaking on the basic facts about HIV and AIDS as well as the mode of transmission of HIV, she advised residents that testing for HIV is advisable as the earlier it is detected, the earlier the treatment which can prevent further spread of the disease.

Executive Director of SACA, Mr Kingsley Ozegbe noted that the NGO is focused on environmental justice, human rights and community development aimed at improving the lives of persons living in oil producing communities.
