The Eunice Nnachi Women Advocacy Foundation, ENWAF has joined the United Nations General Assembly and the rest of the world to mark the International Day of the Girl Child celebrated every October 11.

This year’s theme is Investing in Girls Rights, Our Leadership, Our Wellbeing.

The International Day of the Girl Child was declared with the aim to raise awareness on gender equality, child marriage, education deprivation and other sensitive issues faced by girls due to their gender.

Founder and CEO of ENWAF, Lady Eunice Nnachi noted that the girl child all around the world is a victim of certain issues and several abuse such as denial of basic educational, legal rights, medical care, forced child marriage discrimination and others.

Lady Nnachi emphasized that she stands with and for the girl child inorder to trade and invest in their future to become successful women tomorrow.

However, she urged the government to collaborate with other human rights advocacy organizations to promote gender equality in schools and also give the girl child a voice in the nation and society at large.

” Today is significant because it highlights the various ways in which girls are denied their rights. The government should help in promotion of gender equality, they should not leave the work for only gender advocates, the government should help to fulfill human rights, the girl child should have right to education, health, freedom of choice”

The ENWAF CEO also appealed to the government to invest in the education of the girl child, empowering them to have the same opportunities as the boys to make them more useful in the society.
