Ganagana Floors Nicholas Mutu, Clinches APC Ticket for Bomadi/Patani Reps Seat
Delta State – Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Basil Okolobaowei Ganagana has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency seat following a sweeping victory over longtime federal lawmaker, Nicholas Mutu.
The keenly contested primary, held ahead of the 2027 general elections, saw Ganagana secure an overwhelming 14,632 votes to defeat Mutu, who polled 1,093 votes across the two local government areas that make up the constituency.
According to the official results announced by party officials, Ganagana dominated the polls in both Bomadi and Patani Local Government Areas.
In Bomadi, Ganagana scored 10,329 votes against Mutu’s 701 votes, while in Patani, he polled 4,303 votes as against Mutu’s 392 votes.
The final tally showed:
Basil Ganagana
- Bomadi — 10,329
- Patani — 4,303
- Total — 14,632
Nicholas Mutu
- Bomadi — 701
- Patani — 392
- Total — 1,093
The outcome marks a major political shift in Delta State politics, as Ganagana’s victory effectively ends Mutu’s nearly three-decade presence in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
Political observers described the result as a clear demonstration of grassroots support for Ganagana within the constituency and a reflection of changing political dynamics within the APC in Delta State.
Supporters of the APC candidate erupted in jubilation shortly after the declaration of results, celebrating what many described as a new chapter for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency.
Ganagana is now expected to fly the APC flag for the House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general election.
