2027: Shettima Urges Northern Voters to Repay Tinubu With Second-Term Support
By Tams Jonah, KADUNA – Vice President Kashim Shettima has appealed to voters in northern Nigeria to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, arguing that the president deserves another term because of his past political support for leaders from the region.
Shettima made the appeal on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna, where he urged supporters to vote for Tinubu and other party candidates across all levels of government.
The vice president’s appeal centred on political reciprocity, asking northern voters to consider Tinubu’s history of supporting northern political leaders when deciding whether to back his second-term ambition.
He called on party supporters to demonstrate their loyalty by voting for APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of maintaining the party’s political strength across the country.
The campaign event comes as political parties and their leaders intensify efforts to build support ahead of the next general election, with the APC seeking to consolidate its position in northern Nigeria, a region that plays a significant role in determining electoral outcomes.
Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, is seeking re-election in 2027. His administration’s policies and performance are expected to feature prominently in the campaigns as political parties appeal to voters over the economy, security, infrastructure and other national concerns.
Shettima’s message frames the president’s re-election bid partly around political loyalty and reciprocal support, placing the relationship between Tinubu and northern political leaders at the centre of his appeal.
The APC is expected to campaign across the country as it seeks another mandate for Tinubu and its candidates in the forthcoming elections.
