How Guinness World Records Confirmed Hilda Baci Cook-a-thon

Report by Victor Oroyi – After about a month of review, Guinness World Records confirmed Nigerian-born chef and sociologist, Hilda Bassey popularly called Hilda Baci for her 4-day Kitchen stint tagged Cook-A-thon is quite dramatic.

It came at a time, when the social media is floored with several cooking marathon by Nigerians.

Hilda Baci’s confirmation as the World Record Holder for the longest cooking marathon by individual by the Guinness World Records on Tuesday puts to rest speculations in some section of the media.

The body released a statement on its official website and a video to confirm Hilda Baci’s new record holder as world’s longest cooking marathon by an individual for 93 hours 11 minutes about 7 hours short of her 100 hours attempt.

‘7 hours were deducted from her final time.  She mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early in her cooking stint. As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity,” the Guinness World Records explains.

Hilda Baci started her 4-day kitchen stint at 4pm on Thursday 11 May 2023 and ended about 7pm on Monday 15 May 2023 with a cumulative 100 hours of cooking.  According to Guinness, she cooked about 100 pots with a created 35-item menu each pot serve between 30 – 35 people.

She is a Madonna University graduate of Sociology and aged 26 as the time of breaking Lata Tondon’s record of 87 hours 45 minutes.  Lata Tondon is an Indian chef who became the first female to set a record in September 2019.

For Hilda Baci, the attempt to break the world record in the longest cooking marathon is to put Nigeria cuisine on the world map and to inspire young African women to chase their dreams adding that she decided to break this record to truly push her limits and test her ability.
