
INEC Chairman, IEOP Team Visit South Korean Electoral Institution
By Our Staff Reporter – The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside members of the Commission’s delegation participating in the International Election Observation Programme (IEOP), paid a working visit to key electoral institutions in the Republic of Korea as part of efforts to deepen knowledge and strengthen electoral administration.
The delegation visited the South Korean National Election Commission (NEC) Headquarters and the Korean Civic Education Institute (KOCIE), where they engaged with electoral officials on the development and evolution of Korea’s electoral system.
During the visit, the INEC team was exposed to various aspects of South Korea’s election management framework, including innovations in electoral processes, technological applications, and institutional facilities that have enhanced the credibility and efficiency of elections in the country.
Officials of the NEC and KOCIE delivered presentations highlighting the historical development of the Korean electoral system and the role of technology in election administration. The sessions also provided insights into voter education strategies, election logistics, and mechanisms designed to promote transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.
The engagement offered members of the Nigerian delegation an opportunity to exchange ideas with their South Korean counterparts and examine best practices that could contribute to the continuous improvement of electoral management and democratic governance.
The visit forms part of broader international observation and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at fostering collaboration among electoral management bodies and strengthening democratic institutions through the exchange of experiences and innovations.
