NCDC Moves to Calm Fears Over New COVID-19 Case in Cross River
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reassured Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm following the confirmation of a fresh COVID-19 case in Cross River State.
In a statement issued by its Director-General, Jide Idris, the agency emphasized that there is currently no indication of widespread transmission of the virus.
“All identified contacts are being followed up appropriately, and there is no evidence at this time of widespread transmission,” the NCDC stated.
The public health body noted that swift response measures have been activated, including contact tracing and monitoring, to contain any potential spread of the virus. Health officials in Cross River State are also working closely with national authorities to ensure strict adherence to established COVID-19 protocols.
The reassurance comes amid growing public concern over the re-emergence of isolated cases, years after the peak of the global pandemic. However, the NCDC maintained that Nigeria’s surveillance and response systems remain robust and capable of managing such developments.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant, maintain basic hygiene practices, and report any symptoms to the appropriate health authorities, as the country continues to guard against a possible resurgence of the disease.
