New Book Release Alert: FUNDAMENTALS OF THE NIGER DELTA STRUGGLE: THE IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL PERSPECTIVE By Wisdom Ikuli

Political and social activist, Most Senior Comrade Wisdom Oniekpar Ikuli is set to release a new book titled ‘Fundamentals of the Niger Delta Struggle: The Ijaw Youth Council Perspective’.

According to the author, the book, his is special gift to the Ijaw nation to provide literature on the activities of the Ijaw Youth Council and the Niger Delta struggle.

Below the author’s statement on his Facebook page;

‘MY SPECIAL GIFT TO THE IJAW NATION

The greatest gift and legacy any parent can bequeath to his or her child is Education.

For me, the greatest gifts I can give to the Ijaw nation as my own contribution to the growth and development of our great people are my Intellectual works and so, I humbly present to you my newest book ‘FUNDAMENTALS OF THE NIGER DELTA STRUGGLE: THE IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL PERSPECTIVE’.

Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), the umbrella body of Ijaw youths all over the world and one of the foremost youth groups in the world and Africa in particular marked her 20th Anniversary on the 11th December, 2018 (1998 – 2018). Unfortunately, before this pioneering effort, there was no single literature containing the great role including sacrifices of this noble pressure group.

The book ‘Fundamentals of the Niger Delta Struggle: The Ijaw Youth Council Perspective which has 452pages and 19 Chapters X-ray the Niger Delta struggle from a holistic point of view. It traces the political evolution of the Nigerian State right from the 13th century when Ijaws had first contact with the European explorers, adventurers, imperialists and colonialists.

Beside identifying the challenges of the Niger Delta, Ijaw nation and the Ijaw Youth Council, it also proffers lasting solutions. The book reminds the Ijaw nation retrospectively, reflects on the present and also projects into the future.

It is indeed an encyclopedia and compendium, all put together as a guide and roadmap for sustainable rapid socio-economic and political development in the Niger Delta and Ijaw nation in particular.

I spent two years to put this work together and so for me, it is a dream come through because of the hitherto very wide intellectual gap that existed for decades which this piece has come to bridge.

We are reminded through the instrumentality of this book that there is no alternative to knowledge and education which is the bedrock of every human society.

It is also important to note that for a people to know the exact direction they are going, they first of all need to know where they are coming from.

Fundamentals of the Niger Delta: The Ijaw Youth Council Perspective will help to quench the curiosity of adventurous young comrades who are passionate about the struggle for emancipation cum liberation of our great people from economic and political servitude.

It is my fervent prayer that the Ijaw nation shall regain her lost glory among comity of ethnic nations.
