Nigeria@66 & Bayelsa@30: Obuebite Felicitates With Nigerians, Bayelsans, Celebrates Resilience, Cohesion
The Federal House of Representatives flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, PhD, has felicitated with Nigerians and the people of Bayelsa State on the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence and the 30th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State.
Hon. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, PhD, said the Independence anniversary and the creation of Bayelsa State are worthy of celebration, given the sustained resilience, peaceful disposition and cohesion demonstrated by the people despite the challenges and other odds.
Obuebite, in a statement issued in Yenagoa, described October 1 as a remarkable and divinely significant day—a day the nation celebrates its freedom and a day to thank God for the creation of Bayelsa, our only homeland and our Jerusalem, “The Glory of All Lands,” carved out of Rivers State on October 1, 1996, by the late General Sani Abacha.
In the message, Obuebite stated that the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence and Bayelsa@30 demonstrates that, truly, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
“On behalf of my family and political party, the All Progressives Congress, I heartily felicitate with you on this double celebration: Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and the 30th Anniversary of the Creation of our dear Bayelsa State.
“October 1 is a remarkable and divinely significant day for us. It is a day we celebrate our freedom as a nation and a day we thank God for the creation of Bayelsa, our only homeland and our Jerusalem, ‘The Glory of All Lands,’ carved out of Rivers State on October 1, 1996, by the late General Sani Abacha.
“Thirty years ago, our long-standing dream of a distinct identity, equity and development became a reality. From humble beginnings, God has kept us as a people and as a state, and we have every reason to declare, ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us’ (1 Samuel 7:12). Though we still have challenges, we have every reason to thank God for how far He has brought us.
“On this historic occasion, I wish to express my profound appreciation to all our founding fathers and past leaders who laboured tirelessly to build Bayelsa from scratch—Navy Captain Philip O. Ayeni, CP Habu Daura, Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade, Col. Paul Edor Obi, and our first indigenous Governor, the late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha; former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR; Chief Timipre Sylva; and Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson—for their sacrifices, vision and contributions to the growth of our dear state.
“Most importantly, I specially appreciate our God-sent ‘Miracle Governor,’ His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri, for his people-oriented leadership, his unprecedented infrastructural revolution and for being an apostle of peace.
“Under his watch, Bayelsa has truly become a haven of peace and unity, and we can boldly say, God is at work in Bayelsa.
“To my resilient and beloved people of Brass and Nembe, you have remained peaceful, steadfast and committed to the progress of Bayelsa State and Nigeria at large, despite all odds. I am very proud of you.
“As we celebrate this milestone, I pray that the Lord will heal our land, unite us more, and let His peace that surpasses all understanding reign in our homes and communities.
“May the next 30 years bring greater development, prosperity, unity and glory to our Federal Constituency, Bayelsa State and our nation.
“Let us continue to keep faith, support one another and work together for a better Brass/Nembe, a better Bayelsa and a greater Nigeria.”
