Ondewari Community Set to Commence ‘Road Sef Don Reach Ondewari’ Annual Festival
The Ondewari community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is set to launch an annual celebration tagged “Road Sef Don Reach Ondewari” in anticipation of the commencement of the Oporoma–Ondewari road project.
This development comes as the Bayelsa State Government, under the leadership of Governor Douye Diri, intensifies efforts to link more riverine communities with road access. The governor, who has often expressed dissatisfaction with the underdevelopment of coastal areas, is determined to connect every part of the state — especially the riverine communities — to the capital city, Yenagoa.
With construction in Otuan, Oporoma, and Eniwari nearing completion, the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is now set to begin work on the 13-kilometre Oporoma–Ondewari stretch, which includes a major bridge.
Representatives of CCECC recently visited Ondewari to meet with community members who expressed joy and gratitude to Governor Diri for his commitment to transforming the lives of riverine dwellers.
“We are happy that this is happening in our lifetime. We cannot thank His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, our amiable governor, enough, even as we give God the glory,” the community representatives said.
The Ondewari people say the “Road Sef Don Reach Ondewari” annual festival will become a symbol of transformation and gratitude, celebrating Governor Diri’s efforts to bring development to their once-isolated community.
The festival, according to them, will serve as a reminder of the historic road link that will boost trade, social interaction, and economic growth, connecting Ondewari to the rest of Bayelsa State like never before.
Governor Douye Diri’s administration continues to strengthen its commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that no community — no matter how remote — is left behind in the Bayelsa growth story.
