
Pere Egbuson heads Bayelsa GBV Unit, as unit gets toll-free lines
Pere Egbuson, an assistant Director in the Bayelsa State Ministry of Justice is the head of newly created Gender-based Violence Unit.
Inaugurating the new GBV Unit, Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Justice, Preye Agedah said the gender-based violence unit within the ministry of Justice is to intervene in the earliest stages of any case of gender-based offence.
According to a statement signed by the Permanent secretary, the unit will also provide necessary legal counsel and directives on such issues.
Preye Agedah, who is also the Solicitor-General explained that the unit became necessary with the recent increase in gender-based violence cases in Bayelsa State and the country in general.
The Permanent Secretary also formally unveiled a set of toll-free numbers which he said the general public can call and receive prompt response from the office any time.
Stressing that there is need to report gender-based offences like rape, incest, defilement, domestic violence, murder, etc.
The numbers are: MTN: 08031230629 and AIRTEL: 09029972627.
He encouraged members of the public to report suspected cases of gender-based violence by calling the toll-free numbers, to enable the team of prosecutors intervene early and prosecute offenders.
The statement emphasized that calls to any of these numbers will not be charged as the Ministry of Justice has paid for all charges in advance.
Pere Egbuson, assistant Director in the office of the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Bayelsa Ministry of Justice is a former Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Bayelsa State branch.
Other members of the unit are Pre-Gee Oyindobra Ebinimi, Ineilayefa William-Ebi and Temple Daniels.
