Police Commence Investigation Into Death Of 24-Year-Old Amassoma Youth
The Bayelsa State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the reported death of Odutua Patrick Peresuodei, a 24-year-old indigene of Amassoma Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, following viral social media allegations suggesting foul play.
The development, which has sparked widespread public interest and mixed reactions across the state, prompted the Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, to order a comprehensive probe to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, Anipr, foosi, preliminary findings revealed that on January 15, 2026, at about 6:00pm, one Bodmas Prince Kemepadei, of ICHC Centre, Tenacious Street, Edepie, Yenagoa, allegedly arrested and brought two young men—Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah (24) and Peresuodei Destiny (22)—both from Amassoma Community, to a police station over an alleged threat-to-life post on Facebook.
The police said the suspects were brought in company of security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). On arrival at the station, officers reportedly observed bruises on the bodies of the suspects, prompting the immediate commencement of investigation.
While statements were obtained from both individuals, the now-deceased Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah was said to be incoherent during interrogation and was subsequently taken to the police clinic for medical evaluation. The attending doctor, however, advised that he be released to his relatives for proper medical attention.
Following medical advice, the suspects were released to a family member identified as Charles Edure.
However, about two weeks after their release, reports emerged on social media alleging that Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah died on January 30, 2026, with claims linking his death to the earlier arrest.
While cautioning against dragging the Command into unverified allegations of murder on social media, the Police disclosed that a manhunt has been launched for Bodmas Prince Kemepade and his alleged cohorts in connection with the incident.
The Bayelsa State Police Command appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of undermining investigations or escalating public tension.
The Command further urged individuals with credible and useful information to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to aid the ongoing investigation, reiterating its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the rule of law.
Police assured that the public would be duly informed as further developments emerge.
