Tesla Unveils Rocket-Assisted Roadster, Promises Flying-Car Capabilities
By Joyce Sunny, FOREIGN DESK –Â Tesla has showcased its next-generation Roadster electric sports car, featuring SpaceX-developed rocket-style thrusters and futuristic capabilities that could blur the line between high-performance driving and flying-car technology.
The vehicle was demonstrated in Texas on October 15, 2026, performing spectacular manoeuvres, including turning in mid-air and jumping over other vehicles.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the electric sports car could accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than one second and achieve top speeds exceeding 230 mph, placing it among the most ambitious performance vehicles ever announced.
The rocket-assisted technology, developed in collaboration with SpaceX, is a major highlight of the Roadster’s design, although its practical application remains limited by regulatory restrictions.
Tesla has indicated that the rocket-powered features are not approved for public-road use, raising questions about how much of the vehicle’s advertised capabilities will be available to everyday drivers.
Despite the unveiling, prospective buyers will have to wait, as production is not expected to begin until 2028. The company has also yet to disclose the vehicle’s final price.
The latest Roadster represents Musk’s continued push to combine electric mobility with advanced aerospace technology, although its ambitious performance claims and proposed airborne manoeuvres will require further scrutiny as the vehicle moves towards production.
