Kate Henshaw, a thespian, was born fifty-three years ago in Cross River State, Nigeria. During her secondary school days in Lagos, Kate nurtured her flair for acting, in school-drama, which served as a launch pad to what later became a robust career.

Before her debut lead-role in a Nollywood’s Sun Set, movie in 1993, which announced her presence on the big screen in various homes, Kate had also starred in television drama series in Lagos, which further put her on the path to fame.

She obtained academic and professional qualifications in medical microbiology and medical laboratory science, starting from University of Calabar and later, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Later she practiced for a while at Bauchi General Hospital. She also had a stint at Coca Cola in Lago, where she was a microbiologist.

However, that was not to be her real calling, perhaps.

Her undying passion made her to return to acting, as the first calling.

On joining Nollywood, the multi-talented and delectable thespian honed her acting skills and became one of the most sought-after actors for romantic movies, action thrillers and so on.

In her about three decades of acting, Henshaw has appeared in more than 350 movies, most of which she played key roles, and has won many awards. The awards include Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) award for Best Actress in Leading Role, in the movie, Stronger than Pain; Best Supporting Actress, Nollywood Awards and Best Actress ZAAFAA African Academy Awards, among others.

Her charismatic and leadership prowess, has earned her positions in professional organisations in the film and movie industry, one of which is Director of Communications, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

A woman of many paths, Kate Henshaw is also a modeler, articulate public speaker, television and magazine media personality, talent for TV commercials, singer, and judge on the panels of Nigeria’s Got Talent CBS International Show, The World’s Best as well as African International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

The Amazon’s stunning personality and talents have also earned her endorsement deals and ambassadorship of big brands. Such brands include Samsung Mobile and Electronics, Globacom Aquafina (Pepsi Cola), Mortein Insecticide (Reckitt Nigeria), and ONGA Seasoning (Promasidor).

In philanthropy, the actress gives succor to the needy, through her personal resources and talent-driven advocacy, notably in healthcare, women rights advocacy and empowerment. She also has affiliations with World Health Organisation (WHO) Cancer Prevention Programme; Project Alert on Violence against Women and Children; Nigerian Women Trust Fund for Empowerment of Communities and Protection of Women’s rights as well as Global initiative for Peace (GIP).

In recognition of her contributions to the social and economic wellbeing of citizens and Nigeria, the Cross River State Government appointed the A-List thespian as Special Adviser, Liaison, Lagos. The Federal Government conferred on her, the title of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

Kate Henshaw’s choice of acting career, might not have been a mistake, after all, as it has catapulted her to greatness, while also serving humankind through her health background.

She was in Yenagoa, to nurture intending, as well as up and coming actors in the trade.
