The Akwa Ibom state government has concluded plans to train its workforce in Chinese language and culture as more businesses are being conducted with Chinese firms.
The first batch of workers under the Akwa Ibom state employment have began a two month intensive training at the Chinese centre in Uyo, the state capital.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Iniobong Ememobong, who inaugurated the training for the workers explained that the government had to take this necessary action due to several large scale Chinese companies residing in the state.
He noted that several Chinese companies have signed up for erosion control and road construction works in the state adding has become expedient for the government to take interest in the Chinese language to ease the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU during business and contract agreement.
Mr Ememobong said since the Ministry of Information and Strategy represents the spokesperson for the government, information officers were chosen to be trained to serve as interpreters for government as well as other future services involving Chinese government.
The Commissioner congratulated the first batch of Information Officers participating in the exercise while urging them to make good use of the opportunity given to them to justify government’s investment in the training.
