The federal government has been urged to probe the millions of naira funds wasted under the guise of rebuilding moribund refineries in the country.
A socioeconomic group, Social Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP urged President Buhari to probe all funds spent since 1999 under his leadership as the Minister for Petroleum.
The group called on President Buhari to ask the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami to probe the funds spent on the rehabilitation and maintenance of the refineries.
SERAP quoting reports said that the government spent over two hundred billion naira annually to maintain the country’s refineries while other administrations have also spent billions of naira to rehabilitate these refineries that have produced little or no fuel.
The group appealed to the president to do justice to those who are involved in the importation of dirty fuel into the country.
SERAP also expressed concern over the scarcity of fuel which has caused harsh economic and social conditions for Nigerians making them incapable of realizing their full potentials.
