Amaechi Officially Enters 2027 Presidential Race on ADC Platform
Abuja – Former Governor of Rivers State and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has formally taken a major step toward the 2027 presidential election after obtaining the Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja.
Amaechi picked up the form at the national headquarters of the party on Thursday amid growing political realignments ahead of the next general election.
The move officially signals his intention to contest the presidency under the platform of the African Democratic Congress, joining the widening field of aspirants seeking to lead the country in 2027.
Supporters and political associates who accompanied the former minister to the party secretariat described the development as a defining moment for the opposition, expressing confidence in Amaechi’s leadership experience and administrative record.
Amaechi, a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, served as Governor of Rivers State for two terms before his appointment as Minister of Transportation, where he supervised major rail and transport infrastructure projects across the country.
Backers of the former minister pointed to his role in the revitalisation and expansion of Nigeria’s railway network as evidence of his capacity to manage national development and drive economic growth.
The ADC had earlier announced the commencement of its nomination process for the 2027 presidential primaries, with the presidential nomination form pegged at ₦100 million.
Political observers say Amaechi’s entrance into the race could reshape opposition politics ahead of the election, particularly with increasing consultations and endorsements reportedly emerging from stakeholders within the South-South region and beyond.
In recent public engagements, the former minister has repeatedly stressed the need for competence-driven leadership, youth inclusion, economic reforms, infrastructure expansion, and improved security architecture as critical priorities for Nigeria.
The development also triggered reactions across social media platforms, where supporters described the move as a major boost for the opposition coalition and a sign of intensifying political activities ahead of the 2027 contest.
