
Bayelsa Athletes Record New PBs as MTN CHAMPS Ends in Ibadan
It was a glorious week for Bayelsa State athletes who participated at the just concluded MTN Champs season 4 grand finale in Ibadan, Oyo State.
A contingent of 29 athletes in both track and field events showed that their trainings were not in vain with individual brilliance and performances.
Nigeria rising star, Tejiri Godwin of Team Bayelsa dropped a huge Personal Best of 10:29secs in the 100m senior men in his semi final, the third fastest time in the competition.
Also, Egweama-born Faye Perfect ran 21:24secs in the U-20 Junior men in the 200metres to book his place in the World U-20 Athletics Championship in Oregon, US later in August this year.
Similarly, Faith Ezechukwu, ran a blistering 400m Junior final to place 3rd with a time of 54:04 secs, meeting up the World Junior qualifying standard for Oregon competition.
In the 800metres U-20 Junior, Samson Teibowei, ran a new Personal Best of 1:56:04 secs for a second position in the final. His team mate in Samkay Athletics Club, Mekioniso Messiah, leapt 6.95 metres in the long jump, a new Personal Best.
Also, Ebikiemo Ikadoi, ran a new PB of 10:78secs in the 100 metres, being first time running a sub-10 in any competition.
Quarter miler, Sisan Efejeku, placed third in the 400m senior with a new PB of 47:77secs.
In other events, a new kid on the block, Eniola Oduntan of CCSS, Etegwe, who was recently discovered in Yenagoa leapt 1:50 metres in the Youth U-17 female high jump to win the gold medal.
In the Junior U-20 men high jump, Tywhite Izibeyakimini Deme, leapt 1:95 metres to win bronze, a new Personal Best to appear in his profile on the World Athletics site.
