Trophy Arrives Yenagoa as Bayelsa FC26 Point One Tournament Gains Government Backing
By Ebis Freeman – The highly anticipated Bayelsa FC26 Point One Tournament has received a major boost following the arrival and official unveiling of its prestigious trophy in Yenagoa ahead of the competition scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2026.
The trophy, which arrived from Lagos, was unveiled by the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Daniel Igali, signaling growing government support for esports and youth-driven initiatives in the state.
Speaking during the unveiling, the tournament founder, WallZee Alertboy narrated the inspiring journey behind the competition, describing it as a personal mission to empower Bayelsa youths and create opportunities for local gamers.
According to him, his passion for gaming began from childhood when financial challenges threatened his education after he and his younger brother gained admission into the university at the same time.
“My father was a headmaster and could not afford to train both of us. I told him to sponsor my younger brother while I struggled through school myself,” he recalled.
He explained that he financed his education through a small video game business, which later became his survival platform while in school. During that period, he also ventured into music and released his first single titled Mobile Phone, a breakthrough that opened more opportunities and supported him through graduation.
After school, he temporarily abandoned the gaming business to focus fully on music before discovering a growing challenge among Bayelsa youths, many of whom traveled outside the state to participate in FIFA competitions and esports tournaments.
The discovery, he said, inspired him to revive the gaming business, not primarily for profit, but to create a platform that would benefit young people in Bayelsa State.
That vision eventually birthed the Bayelsa FC Point One Tournament, which has now grown into one of the state’s emerging esports events.
He noted that this year’s edition, the third in the series, promises to be bigger and more competitive, with participants expected from different parts of the state.
“This is more than just a game. It is my show of love for Bayelsa. It is a celebration of our youths and proof that we can build opportunities here at home instead of watching our talents leave the state,” he stated.
The competition will take place at The Wallzee Alert Hub, also known as The WAHB Game Coliseum, in Yenagoa, with the winner expected to go home with the golden trophy and a cash prize of ₦200,000.
Organizers have called on gaming enthusiasts, youths, and residents of the state to turn out massively to support the initiative and witness what they described as a historic moment for esports development in Bayelsa State.
