Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Thursday presented a budget proposal of Nine Hundred and Ninety-Eight Billion, Three Hundred and Seventy-One Million, Three Hundred and Thirteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty-Three Naira, Four Kobo (₦998,371,313,943.04) to the State House of Assembly for the 2026 fiscal year.
Tagged “Budget of Assured Prosperity II,” the proposal, according to the Governor, is aimed at further advancing the frontiers of development and sustaining the administration’s vision of a united, peaceful, and prosperous Bayelsa State.
Presenting the appropriation bill before the lawmakers, Governor Diri expressed appreciation to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the leadership, and all members of the House for their consistent partnership and support for his administration’s developmental agenda.
He disclosed that the 2025 Appropriation Law achieved an impressive 73 per cent performance, noting that the results of the government’s significant capital spending were evident in the completion and progress of several legacy projects across the state.
“For the second consecutive year, we have produced a budget document where allocation for capital expenditure is substantially higher than the recurrent,” the Governor stated. “This is very strategic to our sustained development agenda.”
According to the breakdown, ₦645,257,012,281.15, representing 64.6 per cent of the total budget, is earmarked for capital projects, while ₦353,114,301,661.90, representing 35.4 per cent, is allocated for recurrent expenditure.
Governor Diri said the 2026 Budget of Assured Prosperity II would focus on key sectors such as road and infrastructure construction, education, healthcare, sports development, skills acquisition, and the power sector.
He further revealed that in line with the administration’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure, the budget has made provisions for potable water supply across the Yenagoa metropolis through the construction of water reticulation lines.
“Access to potable water should never be a luxury but a basic and readily available necessity,” the Governor emphasized. “That is why our administration has resolved to address this long-standing challenge through the construction of water reticulation lines in Yenagoa.”
Governor Diri assured that the Budget of Assured Prosperity II would consolidate ongoing projects and launch new initiatives that would enhance the quality of life and drive socio-economic growth across Bayelsa State.
