King David didn’t get enlarged in the good times; he was enlarged when things weren’t going his way. While he was alone out in the shepherds’ fields, it looked as though he would never accomplish his dreams. But those years helped prepare him to become a champion. When he killed Goliath, it happened because he went through the dark places with a good attitude.

When he was distressed and felt as though God had forgotten about him, his attitude was, “God, this is a dark place, but I’m developing patience and perseverance and learning to trust You.” At the right time, he came out of that dark place increased, promoted, and better off than he had been before.

You may feel alone, abandoned, and mistreated, but dare to believe that He is blessing you even in the dark places. Be faithful in the shepherds’ field. It may not be easy, but faith is trusting in God when life doesn’t make sense.

Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You bless me even in the dark places, and what’s meant for my harm is going to bring me into a broad place. Thank You that You are preparing me to become a champion. I declare that I am trusting in You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

“There’s no greater feeling than being able to help people rise higher and overcome something and feel better about themselves. I think that we’re all made to help others, to lift people UP.” – JOEL OSTEEN

About Joel Osteen

Raised in Houston, Texas, with a loving family of seven and world-renowned parents in full-time ministry, Joel Osteen never imagined that he would follow so closely in his father’s footsteps. As a young man, his training and interests were behind the scenes in television production, though he was close to his father in ministry.

His father always encouraged him to preach, but Joel would politely decline time and time again until one day in October 1999 when his father was admitted to the hospital with kidney complications. Joel finally agreed to preach the next Sunday, and his father passed the following week. Joel’s first sermon was the last his father ever heard. Joel and his wife, Victoria, were suddenly thrust into full-time leadership of Lakewood Church.
