Fubara Assigns Portfolios to Newly Sworn-In Commissioners, Signals Push for Accelerated Development in Rivers State

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assigned specific portfolios to the five commissioners recently sworn into his cabinet, marking a key step in strengthening the State Executive Council and driving focused governance across critical sectors.

The commissioners, who were screened rigorously by the Rivers State House of Assembly and confirmed last Monday before being inaugurated on Wednesday at Government House, Port Harcourt, have now been deployed to head key ministries. Governor Fubara administered the oaths of allegiance and office, charging the new appointees to deliver nothing short of excellence in service to the people of Rivers State.

During the swearing-in ceremony, the Governor described the Assembly’s screening process as one of the most thorough in recent times and expressed full confidence in the commissioners’ readiness to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s agenda.

The newly assigned portfolios are as follows:

– Mr. Tonye Bellgam – Commissioner for Special Duties
– Prof. Temple Nwofor – Commissioner for Works
– Dr. Peters Nwagor – Commissioner for Education
– Mr. Lekue Kenneth – Commissioner for Finance and Budget
– Sir Amairigha Edward Hart – Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning

These appointments are widely seen as strategic, targeting infrastructure renewal (Works), human capital development (Education), fiscal discipline and planning (Finance/Budget), orderly city growth (Urban Development & Physical Planning), and flexible support for priority projects (Special Duties).

Analysts believe the move will help accelerate ongoing development initiatives in Rivers State, particularly in road construction, educational reforms, urban renewal projects in Port Harcourt and other local government areas, and prudent management of state resources amid economic challenges.

The Governor has repeatedly emphasized teamwork, service delivery, and a commitment to building a better Rivers State for all residents. With the Executive Council now bolstered, expectations are high that these technocrats and professionals will hit the ground running to translate the administration’s vision into tangible results.

The swearing-in and portfolio assignments come shortly after Governor Fubara reconstituted parts of his cabinet, underscoring his determination to maintain momentum in governance despite earlier political tensions in the state.

Residents and stakeholders in Rivers State are optimistic that the infusion of fresh expertise into these vital sectors will translate to faster project execution and improved quality of life across the state.
