Gloria Diri Charges Women Entrepreneurs to Concentrate on Building Sustainable Businesses

The Wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Dr.Mrs Gloria Diri has charged women entrepreneurs to stay focused and build capacity to enhance the growth of their businesses.

Dr. Diri who gave the charge in a Keynote Address at the Fifty Million African Women Speak Media Launch in Yenagoa enjoined women to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the platform to show case their businesses outside Bayelsa State.

According to her, agricultural produce such as plaintain, cassava, yam, cocoyam, potatoes and sea foods can be processed, preserved, packaged and branded for export as women entrepreneurs.

She noted that Food Sufficiency and Financial Independence can be achieved if Women who engage in Small and Medium Enterprises produce and also purchase items that are produced in Nigeria as it will contribute to economic viability.

The event which was organized by the Fifty Million African Women Speak Project in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Diri is geared towards encouraging Women Entrepreneurs and others intending to venture into business to gain knowledge and empower themselves with different skills to excel in their chosen endeavor.

In his presentation titled ‘How to Empower Small Scale Entrepreneur’, renowned Finance Management Expert and Chief Executive Officer, Baraza Multi Purpose Cooporative, Ach. Miebi Bribina urged the Women to build partnerships that works based on Integrity, Self Discipline, Hardwork and Confidence to surmount the challenges that destroy businesses.

He explained that knowing the different stages of business growth,investment opportunities, Capital, Income and Expenditure are key to ensuring success in business.

In their separate remarks, the Commissioner for Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development, Mrs. Faith Opuene, represented by Mrs. Felicia Owei and the Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment, Mr. Stanley Braboke adviced women in the state to embrace the Fifty Million African Women Speak Project platform to access financial and non financial information to become self reliant.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the State Representative, Mrs Nurse-ere Perede commended the First Lady for her Support and other Stakeholders for their contributions which made the occasion a huge success.

She said the platform which was initiated by the African Development Bank in Twenty Seventeen in collaboration with Common Market for East and South Africa is aimed at empowering Fifty Million Women Entrepreneurs in over Thirty Eight African Countries to start,engage and scale up business ideas.

The peak of the program was the Formal Launch of the State Wing of the Fifty Million African Women Speak Platform by Evangelist Preye Okara.
