Local Council Seals Off Marriage Registry Office in Port Harcourt
The premises of the Federal Ministry of Interior Marriage Registry has been sealed off by the Port Harcourt City local government council in Rivers State.
The sealing of the premises was to enforce a Federal High Court order issued by Justice D.E Osiagwu on December 8, 2021.
The counsel in the company of representatives the intergovernmental marriage committee of the Federal High Court and security agencies stormed the premises of the Federal Ministry of Interior Marriage Registry at Railway close, DLine in Port Harcourt to enforce the court order.
While speaking to newsmen after sealing off the premises, Secretary, Port Harcourt City local government Mr Chijioke Owhoru said they were empowered by law to seal the facility.
He explained that the law only empowered local government councils to conduct marriages and issue certificates.
