Low Voter Turnout Marks Final Declaration Of Anambra Governor Election Result

The Low Voter Turnout Marks Final Declaration Of Anambra Governor Election Result released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has drawn mixed reactions from observers and stakeholders in Anambra State. Despite a peaceful and well-coordinated process across the 21 local government areas, voter participation remained remarkably low.

According to INEC’s official figures, Anambra State recorded 2,788,864 registered voters, but only 595,298 voters participated in the exercise — representing a 21.35 percent voter turnout. Out of this number, 584,054 votes were declared valid, accounting for 98.11 percent, while 11,244 votes, representing 1.89 percent, were rejected.

The detailed result shows that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) emerged victorious with 422,664 votes, maintaining its dominance in the state’s political landscape. The All Progressives Congress (APC) came second with 99,445 votes, while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) followed with 37,753 votes.

Other results include:

  • A – 224
  • AA – 1,145
  • AAC – 292
  • ADC – 8,208
  • APM – 892
  • APP – 73
  • BP – 126
  • LP – 10,576
  • NNPP – 525
  • NRM – 36
  • PDP – 1,401
  • SDP – 241
  • ZLP – 453

Observers from civil society groups noted that the low voter turnout could be attributed to voter apathy, fear of violence, and lack of trust in the electoral process. Despite these challenges, INEC officials commended the electorate for maintaining orderliness at polling units and ensuring a largely transparent process.

The Low Voter Turnout Marks Final Declaration Of Anambra Governor Election Result has, however, sparked discussions among political analysts about the need for increased civic education and confidence-building measures ahead of future elections.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to continuous voter engagement, promising to review lessons learned from the Anambra governorship election to improve participation in subsequent polls.

As the dust settles on the 2025 Anambra governorship election, one fact remains clear — low voter turnout has once again shaped the political outcome of a state known for its vibrant democratic culture.
