Moroccan Police Seized 1.4 Tonnes of Cocaine Wrapped in Bananas Boxes Heading for Turkey

In a coordinated operation with Spanish security forces, Moroccan police have seized 1.4 tonnes (3,280 lb) of cocaine.

The cocaine was discovered hidden inside banana boxes inside a shipping container on a ship that was sailing from South America to Turkey.

According to a BBC report, Tuesday saw the seizure at the northern Moroccan port of Tanger Med.

Although investigations are ongoing, Moroccan authorities say they believe the cocaine was being smuggled as part of a global drug smuggling operation.

The bust occurs just one day after police found almost 363 kg of cocaine in a truck that was trying to cross the border from Mauritania into Morocco.

The nation in northern Africa has been noted as a major drug smuggling route connecting South America and Europe.
