US Treasury Sanctions Three Sudanese Corporations

The United States US department of Treasury sanctions three Sudanese corporations on allegations that they are financing the horrific war in their nation.

Alkhaleej Bank and Al-Fakher Advanced Works, under the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), are among those sanctioned. The US Treasury Department said on Wednesday that Zadna International, the third entity, is associated with the Sudanese army.

The statement said that by either raising money through gold exports or money laundering, the three organizations have jeopardized Sudan’s peace, security, and stability. The nine-month conflict is intended to be stopped in part by the penalties.

The UN reports that around eight million people have fled their homes and over 12,000 people have perished as a result of the fighting. The commander of the Sudanese army, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, ordered a full-scale operation against the RSF on Tuesday.

He continued by saying that he didn’t want to waste time on conversations. The US government and other civil rights organizations have accused the army and RSF of committing war crimes, charges that both organizations vigorously contest. (BBC)
