Niger Delta Stakeholders Dissatisfied Over Some Sections in PIB

The Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB which has become a law in Nigeria recently has continued to receive many reactions particularly from stakeholders in the Niger Delta region.

One of such is the Ijaw National Congress, INC which has expressed dissatisfaction over the 3% host community fraction.

President of the INC, Professor Benjamin Okaba noted that this development is not commensurable to the massive damage and deprivation that the host communities in the Niger Delta have suffered for many years due to oil exploration activities.

Professor Okaba stated that Ijaw people in the Niger Delta whose lands have been used to produce the major source of income for the country deserves better treatment.

He urged the federal government to consider the plight of the people by making a review of the law inorder to prevent agitations.

“We shall remain peaceful despite our dissatisfaction, we would continue to plead with the government to have a rethink and listen to the cries of our people” he added

The INC boss called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that his administration is sensitive to the needs of all, both the majority and the minority for the country to be remain united.
