Oporoma Under Water, CDC Chairman Accuses IOCs, State, Federal Govt of Neglect

Southern Ijaw, the largest local government area in Nigeria is totally submerged in the flood as the people practically lives inside the water as they don’t have any where to go.

Comrade Yogo Okardi Abraham, chairman of a Community Development Committee, CDC, Oporoma in the area said Oporoma is under water and calles for urgent intervention from IOCs and the Federal of Government of Nigeria.

He accused the IOCs, state and federal governments of abandoning these communities that make up Southern Ijaw local government council.

According to the chairman, the declaration of provision of relief materials and succor by the state government have not been seen in the local government area.

He said, the state governor, Douye Diri has been visiting other flood affected area in the state leaving out Oporoma, the headquarters of the Southern Ijaw LGA describing it as unfair to the people.

The CDC chairman hinted that political office holders elected from area during elections have abandoned them to die by the flood.

Comrade Abraham noted that Oporoma has the largest registered voters in Southern Ijaw noting that they will use their votes against politicians in the next election.

In his words, “Oporoma will not vote people who do not care if we die of hunger and diseases imposed on us by the flood. We practically live with dead bodies as no where to bury our dead, even the mortuaries are flooded.

“We use this medium to call on the international communities and well meaning spirited Nigerians to come to our aid. Our people die everyday”, he said.
