The Leadership of the Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has empathized with it’s members and people of Bayelsa State who in one way or the other are affected by the ravaging flood situation in the state.

A statement by the Council Chairman, Comrade Samuel Numonengi and Secretary, Comrade Ogio Ipigansi described the flood situation in the state as worrisome considering the level of devastation it has caused to livelihood including properties and farm lands.

The statement notes that with critical infrastructure such as hospitals, roads, bridges and schools severely affected is a pointer that the state is in a disastrous situation.

The statement however, applauds the state government on measures taken to ameliorate the sufferings of the people and urged the state Task Force on Flood Mitigation and Management to ensure that adequate relief materials gets to the actual victims of the flood.

The statement also thanked Mr. President and Commander- in- Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammadu Bihari for his directive to relevant Federal Agencies to come to assist the state and called on the Federal Agencies to without delay make their presence felt in the state because presently there is economic hardship as food, medical provisions and energy are in short supply.

The statement further called on Multinational, International Donor Agencies and people of good will to come to the aid of people in the state.

It’s notes that these are trying times for the people of the state as everyone is directly or indirectly impacted by the situation.

The statement urges people to show love and support to each other while consoling those who loss their loved ones.
