Pope Leo XIV Urges Augustinians to be Beacons of Unity
Vatican City –Â Pope Leo XIV on Sunday met with approximately 220 Augustinian fathers from various communities, alongside members of the wider Augustinian family in Madrid, emphasizing the importance of communion, unity, and contemplation in a rapidly changing world.
The meeting took place before the Pontiff’s final engagement of the day with representatives from the worlds of culture, art, economy, and sport at the Movistar Arena.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the gathering began with a greeting from the Provincial Superior, after which Pope Leo XIV expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with members of the Augustinian Order.
The Pope stressed that the spirit of communion and unity among Augustinians carries a powerful message for contemporary society, particularly at a time when divisions and social challenges continue to affect communities worldwide.
Highlighting the presence of contemplative sisters at the meeting, the Pontiff underscored the significance of their vocation and the vital role of prayer and reflection in modern society.
He noted that contemplative life helps provide meaning and direction to social action, especially in an era where silence and humanity’s ability to engage in deep personal reflection are increasingly diminishing.
Pope Leo warned that the loss of interior silence and self-examination poses challenges to both spiritual growth and social cohesion, encouraging religious communities to remain steadfast in fostering spaces for prayer, contemplation, and service.
The meeting formed part of the Pope’s pastoral activities in Madrid and reflected his continued emphasis on unity, fraternity, and the renewal of spiritual values in the contemporary world.
