Rivers 2026: Fubara Pledges Accelerated Progress As Administration Emerges Stronger From Political Turbulence
By Grace Dappa – Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that his administration has weathered intense political challenges and emerged stronger, more focused, and resolute to deliver accelerated development for the state.
Governor Fubara made this declaration on Thursday night while addressing dignitaries at the 2026 New Year State Banquet held at Government House, Port Harcourt.
Describing the survival of his administration through the political storms of 2025 as historic, the Governor attributed the feat to divine grace and unwavering resolve.
He announced that 2026 would mark a season of “restoration and speed” for Rivers State, assuring residents that governance would proceed at full capacity and that whatever appeared lost would be fully recovered.
“We have made history. Books will be written about what we went through and how we survived. The journey in 2025 was not easy, but we endured and became stronger. All the lost crowns will be regained; it is only a matter of time and the speed we will deploy in 2026,” the Governor said.
Addressing critics and political opponents, Governor Fubara dismissed distractions, stressing that his administration remained focused on governance. Using a metaphor to underscore his point, he said, “The only reason a dog barks is when it doesn’t understand. We are not barking because we understand. Governance will continue in full force.”
The banquet also underscored the Governor’s growing political strength, as prominent elder statesmen and political leaders turned out in large numbers. Among those in attendance were former PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; former Rivers State Governor, Sir Celestine Omehia; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara; and former Minister of Transport, Senator Abiye Sekibo.
Governor Fubara described their presence as a strong signal against political blackmail and misinformation, particularly narratives surrounding his relationship with the Federal Government. He stated that their support demonstrated a united front committed to protecting the interests of Rivers State and supporting the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
In his welcome address, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, noted that the administration had remained standing despite prolonged political tension and periods described as emergency rule, adding that resilience had defined the government’s journey.
Proposing a toast to Rivers State, the lawmaker representing Andoni-Opobo Constituency, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante, likened the administration’s experience to biblical restoration, calling on leaders across divides to unite in rebuilding and restoring the state’s lost glory.
Also speaking, former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, while proposing a toast to the Federal Government, emphasised the need for Rivers State to align with national reforms. He praised Governor Fubara as a peacemaker whose cooperation with the centre would unlock sustainable growth and long-term transformation.
The event, which showcased Rivers State’s rich cultural heritage, was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders, collectively projecting a message of unity, stability, and renewed momentum for the year ahead.
