Chairman Southwest governor’s forum and Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has emphasized that the current system of governance in the country needs to be amended for the good of all such that component units of the country can explore avenues for sustainability.
Governor Akeredolu noted that the current system as practiced in the country is one that eroded the identity of the states.
The governor came out with this during a ceremony to honour living heroes who were involved in the struggle for the creation of the state.
He described the current arrangement which he said has rendered almost all state helpless as deplorable adding that the identity of each state is eroded in a mistaken belief of the need for unity and peaceful coexistence.
Governor Akeredolu stressed that the political arrangement in the country must be amended while charging the present leaders to run governance on the principles of justice and equity.
The Ondo State Chief executive noted that those at the state level cannot continue to depend on handouts from the federal government even for the payment of workers salaries.
He described the local government autonomy as a deceptive statement that must be exposed for what it is saying, the local government autonomy was only designed to tactfully collect the economic resources of the communities and states.
