Seriake Dickson Receives Peter Obi, Kwankwaso into NDC
By Dim Oba – As political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to take shape, former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, has formally received prominent political figures, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The meeting, which took place on Sunday at Dickson’s residence in Guzape, Abuja, follows weeks of speculation surrounding the political future and possible alliances of the two influential politicians as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Dickson, a serving Senator and founder of the NDC, described the development as a significant step towards building a formidable political platform capable of reshaping Nigeria’s democratic landscape. He expressed optimism that the entry of Obi and Kwankwaso would strengthen the party’s ideological base and broaden its national appeal.
Both Obi and Kwankwaso, former presidential candidates with strong grassroots followings, are widely regarded as key players in Nigeria’s evolving political dynamics. Their decision to align with the NDC is expected to trigger further consultations and possible defections across party lines in the coming months.
While details of the discussions were not fully disclosed, sources close to the meeting indicated that talks centered on national unity, economic reform, and strategies for inclusive governance.
Political analysts suggest that the move could signal the emergence of a third-force coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of existing major parties. Observers also note that the coming weeks will be critical in determining the structure, leadership framework, and electoral strategy of the NDC.
The development marks one of the most significant political shifts in recent times, as stakeholders continue to position themselves ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 general election.
