Wike Reveals Why Uzodimma Is Opposing Him, Rejects Governor’s Senate Presidency Ambition
By Tams Jonah, ABUJA – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed why Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, is allegedly opposed to him, accusing the governor of nursing an ambition to become the President of the Senate after leaving office.
Wike, who made the disclosure in a statement quoted in reports, claimed that Uzodimma, whose tenure is expected to end between January and February 2028, was planning to contest for a senatorial seat and subsequently seek the Senate presidency.
The FCT minister further alleged that Uzodimma became governor of Imo State after finishing fourth in the governorship election.
According to Wike, he would not support Uzodimma’s ambition to lead the Senate, regardless of the circumstances.
“Hope Uzodimma became governor from fourth position. His tenure will expire between January and February 2028. Now, he wants to leave office to run for senator. He wants to become Senate President,” Wike was quoted as saying.
“Life or death, I will never support a character like Hope Uzodimma to become Senate President.”
The statement highlights the growing political differences between the two prominent figures within Nigeria’s political landscape.
Uzodimma has yet to publicly respond to Wike’s latest remarks.
