ABER Promotes Stella Dogubo-Ovai To Director Of Finance
By Tams Jonah, ABUJA – The Africa Blue Economy Roundtable (ABER) has promoted Madam Stella Dogubo-Ovai, a United States-based financial professional, to Director of Finance of its Continental Executive Council (CEC).
The appointment, approved by ABER Convener and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Piriye Kiyaramo, takes immediate effect and elevates Dogubo-Ovai from her previous role as Director of Treasury of the ABER Women’s Forum.
According to ABER, the elevation reflects her record of integrity, financial discipline and commitment to the development of Africa’s Blue Economy.
In her new role, Dogubo-Ovai will provide strategic financial leadership for the continental organisation, with responsibility for promoting transparency, accountability and donor compliance.
She will also oversee budgeting and fund management across ABER’s various organs, while supervising finance and treasury officers operating across Africa and the Diaspora.
The organisation said she will serve in the position on a voluntary continental basis for an initial two-year term, renewable thereafter.
Dogubo-Ovai will report directly to the Convener/CEO and the Continental Executive Council, with her operations coordinated remotely from the United States and strategic travels undertaken for high-level engagements.
ABER said the appointment is part of efforts to strengthen its financial governance and institutional capacity as it expands its work around Africa’s Blue Economy.
The Africa Blue Economy Roundtable is a continental multi-stakeholder networking platform comprising experts, policymakers, governments, development partners, private-sector leaders, women, youth and coastal communities.
Convened by the BRACED Tourism Promotion and Development Initiative (BTPDI), ABER focuses on advancing a sustainable, inclusive and sovereign Blue Economy in Africa under its vision, “One Africa. One Ocean. One Prosperous Future.”
The platform serves as a policy advocacy, knowledge exchange and partnership brokerage hub, working with the African Union, Regional Economic Communities, national governments, UN agencies and international development institutions.
Through these partnerships, ABER seeks to promote the sustainable utilisation of Africa’s ocean, coastal and inland water resources to support shared prosperity, climate resilience and food security.
