Kate Abiri Commends Bayelsa Government on Multi-Door Court House Law


Grace Freeman reports on Bayelsa State Multi-Door Court House, BMDC as the Chief Judge, CJ, Hon Kate Abiri commends the state government.


The Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Kate Abiri has commended the state government and the House of Assembly for making and assenting to the law in creating the Bayelsa Multi-Door Court House, BMDC.

Justice Abiri gave the commendation during the inauguration of the Bayelsa Multi door Court House which took place at the Chief Judge’s chamber in the state judiciary.

She noted that while the processes of having the Multi door Court House which would facilitate Alternative Dispute Resolution, ARD in the state began in 2009, she was glad that the state government was able to put the legal instrument creating the court house in April 2022.

Justice Abiri pointed out that Section 10, part 2 of the Bayelsa Multi door Court House Law created a Governing Council for the state Multi door Court House hence necessitating it’s inauguration in compliance with the provision of the law.

” The journey of the new Multi door Court House to meet it’s objectives has been torturous, the skeletal services of mediation, reconciliation, arbitration, trial evaluation and others being rendered. I’m pleased to say that the Bayelsa Multi door Court House is set for a full fledged operation”

Attorney General and State Commissioner for Justice, Mr Biriyai Dambo, SAN who spoke to newsmen after the inauguration commended the Chief Judge for the feat achieved in the state judiciary under her stewardship noting that the state would now fully have the ARD mechanism operational adding that the Governing Council is made up of people with impeccable character and requisite knowledge.

“The essence of the Multi door Court House is a form of alternative dispute resolution, when you get into it, you come out better, you come out being friends. In litigation, you go there even if the matter is in your favor, you come out being enemies”

On his part, a member of the Governing Council, King Collins Ebi Daniel, a traditional ruler representing the private sector restated the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution describing the inauguration as timely.
