Bayelsa CP Warns Officers Against Indiscipline, Vows Tougher Fight Against Drug Abuse, Crime
By Jonah Fubara, YENAGOA – The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, has warned police officers against indiscipline and violation of operational guidelines, declaring that his administration will intensify the fight against crime and drug abuse across the state.
CP Adewale issued the warning on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when he paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre in Yenagoa.
The Commissioner stressed that discipline remains the foundation of an effective police force, urging officers to uphold professional standards and shun conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Command.
He also pledged closer collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the State Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies in tackling drug abuse and its associated crimes.
According to him, the Police Command would ensure adequate policing across communities in the state while strengthening partnerships with sister security agencies to confront emerging security threats.
CP Adewale described the media as a critical partner in the fight against crime, appealing to journalists to work closely with the police by promptly reporting incidents and developments that could threaten public safety.
He assured that the Command would operate an open-door policy, providing the media with 24-hour access to report incidents and draw the attention of the police to security concerns across the state.
“Under my watch, the Nigerian Police will create the enabling environment for everyone to perform their lawful duties without fear or intimidation,” he said.
The Commissioner emphasised that security is a shared responsibility, noting that effective collaboration between the police, media and other stakeholders was essential to maintaining peace and security in Bayelsa.
Welcoming the Commissioner, NUJ Bayelsa Chairman, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha, assured him of the media’s readiness to work in synergy with the Police Command in the interest of peace, security and development.
Yemoleigha expressed optimism that the NUJ leadership would sustain a productive relationship with the new Commissioner and the Command.
Also speaking, the NUJ Zonal Secretary, Comrade John Angese, commended CP Adewale for the visit and prayed for his successful tenure and eventual elevation after his assignment in Bayelsa.
