Bayelsa Govt Assures Residents Of More Development; Hails Elders’ Council Over Collaboration
The Bayelsa State Government has reassured residents of its continued commitment to delivering impactful development projects and programmes across the state before the end of its tenure in 2028.
The assurance was given by the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peter Akpe, during a meeting with the leadership of the Bayelsa Elders Council at the Government House in Yenagoa on Monday.
Akpe stated that the administration of Governor Douye Diri, under the Assured Prosperity agenda, remains committed to improving the living standards of the people through sustained development initiatives.
He noted that although the government had made significant progress since assuming office in February 2020, it would continue to pursue development with renewed energy in the remaining years of the administration.
The Deputy Governor also commended the Elders Council for its consistent collaboration and support for government policies and programmes, stressing the importance of sustained cooperation in achieving the shared vision of a more prosperous and secure Bayelsa State.
Describing the visit as remarkable, Akpe expressed appreciation to the elders and other stakeholders in the state for their guidance and support over the years. He encouraged them to continue offering advice and counsel to enable the present administration to conclude its tenure strongly.
“Life is continuous learning. Like Solomon in the Bible, I should be the one seeking you out to tap from your wisdom because you are the custodians of wisdom,” Akpe said.
He added that although he was experienced in governance, his new role required continued guidance from elder statesmen and women.
“We appreciate you as a government, and on behalf of the Governor, I say thank you. As we round off this lap, we strongly believe that with your support, we will achieve even greater developmental results for the state,” he stated.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Bayelsa Elders Council and former Deputy Governor of the state, Gboribiogha John Jonah, said one of the council’s primary responsibilities was to work closely with government to foster development across the state.
Jonah congratulated Akpe on his recent elevation as Deputy Governor and assured him of the council’s continued support towards the overall development of Bayelsa State.
Members of the council who accompanied him on the visit included the Vice Chairman, Elder Zee Debekeme; Secretary-General, Chief Douyi Douglas Naingba; Retired Major Andrew Oputa; Prof. Francis Sikoki; Lady Love Amaseimogha; Dr. Josephine Igodo; Chief Augustine Lugbenwei; Dr. Georgina Ngeri-Nwagha; and Chief Mrs. Cecilia Olisa.
Top government officials present at the meeting included the Acting Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon. Irorodamie Komonibo; the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Comrade Gowon Toruyouyei; and the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai.
The meeting underscored the importance of synergy between government and elder statesmen in advancing development and stability in Bayelsa State.
