Conduct Credible Elections, Governor Diri Charges BYSIEC

The Bayelsa State government has called on the Bayelsa State Independent National Electoral Commission, BYSIEC to conduct credible elections that would be acceptable by all political parties.

Governor of Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri made the call during the swearing in of three BYSIEC Commissioners at the Government House in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Governor Diri noted that by the appointment of these commissioners, he had fulfilled the constitutional requirement of the electoral body.

He pointed out that preparations for the next local government elections has already started in earnest hence the commission should also prepare themselves to conduct one of the best elections in the state.

” I would like to call on all eligible Bayelsans that the BYSIEC would be truly an umpire that would not be influenced by even the government so everyone is free to contest for offices that they are well qualified for”

While speaking on the Opu-Nembe crisis, he stated that the dusk to dawn curfew is still being enforced until the security situation improves.

” Our suspension of activities of youths in Bassambiri is still in force, no one in Nembe is recognized as a Chief to do anything with anybody”

The governor stressed that the dissolution of Opu-Nembe Chiefs and the youth council remains until peace returns to the area as his administration would continue to ensure the protection of lives and properties.
