CS-SUNN harps on tracking of budget, Inaugurates new leadership in Bayelsa


In a bid to increase funding and effective utilization from $2m to $3m within the next one year, the Civil Society -Scaling up Nutrition in Nigeria CS-SUNN, has urged stakeholders, and permanent secretaries, to track their expenses regularly to get an accurate picture of how the money is spent.

Project Officer of Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), Dare Isaac Oguntade, disclosed this at a four days capacity building workshop and establishment of CS-SUNN, Bayelsa state Chapter.

According to Oguntade, the initiative represents a fruitful collaboration between UNICEF and CS-SUNN, aimed at realizing a vision of a Nigeria where every citizen has access to food and nutrition security.

He explained that, influencing stakeholders to increase Investment in nutrition will attract Budget tracking, coalition building, advocacy and healthy implementing among the partners.

He said, “the project is titled Increase Investment in Nutrition to Scale up Quality Nutrition Services and in its first year aims to increase nutrition releases and spending from $2 million to $3. million dollar in 19 states and approved 6 months maternity leave for 6 states.

“Over the years, CS-SUNN has used these project in increasing nutrition financing and releases to improve nutrition outcome by mobilizing State and non State actors to advocate, generate evidence and build capacity.”

In her presentations, the Programme Manager at CS-SUNN, Dr. Goodness Anyanwu, delivered an advocacy training session, coalition building, provided participants with comprehensive insights into advocacy, including its definitions, objectives, and essential components.

Anyanwu advised the civil society groups to work in synergy to achieve a common goal, and create alliances among groups, and focus on the community’s approach to issues.

She emphasized, the importance of embracing diversity while advancing CS-SUNN’s vision of ensuring universal access to food and nutrition security.

She urge the participants to work together as a united team committed to overcoming challenges and becoming powerful agents of change for nutrition in Bayelsa.

She said, “successful coalition building involves recognizing compatible interests, demonstrating that working together will enhance both groups’ abilities to reach their goals, and resolving conflicts.

“By combining resources, the collective effort becomes more powerful than each entity acting on its own.”

The new Chairman, Mrs Ototo appreciated the members for the opportunity to lead, and promised to run an inclusive government.
