Bible Verse for Today

Luke 18:1 – And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

INSIGHT for Devotional Bible Verse for Thursday 25th April 2024 From Luke 18:1

‘Director, please, I don’t think this character needs prayers but counseling on this subject matter’, an actor on a filming set offers a suggestion to amend his lines. The actor is playing the role of a pastor in the short film.

The director looks at the actor, ‘everything needs prayers and we should pray about anything’ and orders the actor to adhere to the lines, description and mode of the filming script.

The said character is a female, who is seeking for job after five years of graduation. In search of a descent paying job, she had sent her curriculum vitae to several offices without a positive response. This ugly experience is getting her worried and frustrated. She is in the pastor’s office for prayers but the actor thinks otherwise of script.

The subject of prayer is treated with levity just like this actor on set. In our bible verse for today, Jesus reminds us on the need to pray. Just like the character in the script, she is giving up, yet, resorts to prayer, which is suppose to be attitude of every believer. However, most times we are concerned with the challenges and attitude of people around us.

In the King James Version, the verse reads ‘…that men ought always to pray, and not to faint’. We get a clearer imagery of the word ‘faint’ in the Amplified version ‘that at all times they ought to pray and not give up and lose heart’. To faint means to give up and lose one’s heart for an unmet expectation. It could arise when faced with adversity.

In Proverbs 24:10, God’s word declares ‘If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.’ So, in the bible verse for today, Jesus shows us the cure to fainting in times of adversity. Prayer is an act of waiting, when we wait on God, He renews and strengthens us to overcome every adversity.

Why complain, when you can pray. Why wait on men, when you can wait on God in the place of prayer. Why play the blame game, when you can completely trust God in prayer. Channel your energy in the place of prayer and quit worrying, and complaining.

To stay prayerful is to resist every ungodly act and occurrence around your destiny. Like the character in the film script who runs to the pastor for prayers, we should learn to run to God at all times as Jesus told his disciples in the bible verse. Praying at all times is what you need.
