Nengi’s Appointment: Our Governor’s Goodwill Deserves Commendation

Written by: Thomas Peretu

It is about time we begin to tell ourselves the truth. Hard as it is or bad as it comes. Let us tell ourselves the timeless truth. Truth is sacred any day anywhere. The sooner we acknowledge and accept the truth the better for everyone of us. Our governor is treading on a path righteousness and love.

His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri, a man blessed with a large heart is a good man. As an apostle of prosperity, he leaves no one in doubt of his grand intentions to be a blessing to all. Since his assumption of office, he has, unpretententiously been spreading the gospel of prosperity and genuinely doling out handouts to deserving citizens. He does not only talk big he acts big. The evidence is there for all to see.

Just a few days ago, His Excellency was in the news for a very good reason. Indeed, he deserves all the salutations and accolades that go with champions of good governance. Afterall, not all governors are disposed to recognising the the good works of its citizens. But our Governor is exceptionally different. We are blessed to have him with us. He keeps faith with words, almost always. Here Karl Marx’s theory of social conflict does not hold water. There’s no trust deficit between the governor and the governmened in my state. Hallelujah. Trust me.

Only recently the social media was abuzz with stories of His Excellency playing host to two of our self appointed ambassadors– Ticklish or Trickish or whatever and Nengi who were members of the inglorious casts of the less noble but avidly popular Big Brother Nigeria House, a programme sustained by subscribers goodwill. It is not always that a Governor has the singular honour of holding court with such special guests, if you ask me. Of course, it provided an opportunity to wine and dine and pop champaigne with these cardboard celebrities of the moment. I hear the duo conducted themselves well above average not lending themselves, as it were to the usual lewd gymnastics notorious in the house.

It was wildly reported that the two envoys, excuse my impetus, were given the deserved appointments on the platter of gold by the prosperity government, (all at no expense to the hapless tax payers). Be rest assured. That’s besides other largesse extended to them for being natives of the state. Even though Ticklish would rather prefer to be identified as a Lagos boy than being a Bayelsan. We all did that at some point, so why begrudge him the opportunity to claim whatever holds his fancy. I think they deserve all that was given to them by the governor. They had worked hard for the system. Trust me.

We should appreciate the Governor for the kind gesture instead of villifying him for being true to his convictions. It was a decision well considered no matter what prisms you adopt in looking at it.

That reminds me, there’s a young man in town whose achievements cannot be ignored or glossed over has been travelling all over Africa breaking and setting records for his expertise in ball joggling while swimming or riding on a bike over long distances. The guy has an uncanny dexterity and showmanship in the use of ball for entertainment. Your Excellency that young man deserves your hands of fellowship?

I want to believe that these recipients of the Governor’s goodwill will not forget to serve the state by attracting investors to our dear gloryland. That’s very important. Don’t just walk away with the reward, remain with us. Feel our pulse as you work to rebrand the image of the state.

Again, kindly allow me privilege to appreciate the Governor for his magnanimity. It is a well thought out honour to our beloved citizens. I hope and pray this recogntion will be extended to all other citizens in and out of the state especially those flying our flag in sports, music, movies, medicine and the sciences.

Afterall it is said that what is good for the goose is equally pleasurable for the gander.

Kudos Govor.
