Peter Obi Cleared to Contest NDC Presidential Primary Ahead of 2027 Election
Abuja – Former Anambra State Governor and presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has been cleared to contest the presidential primary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi secured the approval following a detailed screening exercise conducted by the party’s vetting committee in Abuja, where aspirants were assessed on constitutional eligibility, leadership capacity, and party requirements.
According to party officials, the former Labour Party presidential candidate successfully met all constitutional and statutory conditions required to participate in the forthcoming primary election.
Speaking after the screening session, Obi expressed confidence in the process, noting that the committee thoroughly examined his credentials, political experience, and plans for national development.
“I also addressed questions regarding my vision for a new Nigeria and the type of leadership our nation urgently needs right now,” Obi stated.
The development has further heightened political activities within the NDC as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential race. Supporters of the former governor have described his clearance as a significant step toward reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape through issue-based leadership and economic reforms.
Political observers believe Obi’s participation in the NDC primary could reshape alignments ahead of the general election, especially among young voters and reform-minded Nigerians who continue to advocate for accountable governance and economic stability.
The NDC is expected to announce the timetable and guidelines for its presidential primary in the coming weeks as consultations continue among party stakeholders nationwide.
