Governor Diri Declares Open Bayelsa Maiden Sports Festival In Yenagoa

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri today declared opened the maiden edition of the State Sports Festival tagged “Prosperity Unity Games 2023” at the Samson Siasia stadium, Ovom, Yenagoa.

“We are one homogeneous Bayelsa State. However, we believe that this Sports Festival will again cement the cords of unity that has been existing among the various Local Government Areas in the State and for us as the only homogeneous Ijaw State.

And so, I want to on behalf of the Government of Prosperity and our partner, the sponsors of this event, Access Bank, profoundly welcome all of you athletes to this first ever edition of Bayelsa State Sports Festival.

And everyone will give the credit to the Governor, of course on whose table everything stops. But today, I would like to recognize and appreciate my very able lieutenants beginning with the Deputy Games Master General, His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of our dear State who has sufficiently and very ably supervised the Ministry of Sports.

Let me also recognize the Champion, Honourable, a man that has made this country and our State proud. He is a round peg in a round hole, talking about the Honourable Daniel Baralatei Igali,” Governor Diri stated.

Governor Diri who said the festival would produce emerging talents in different sports urged the athletes to compete fairly and in line with the guidelines.

Over 1,000 athletes will feature in 14 different games.
